Wendy Garcia – Vocals & Brushes Wendy Garcia is a rising jazz vocalist in the Rio Grande Valley, currently pursuing her degree in vocal performance at UTRGV. Her classical training has sharpened her technical skills and fueled her ambition to continually reach new artistic heights. What sets Wendy apart is her distinctive approach to performance. Inspired by NYC jazz drummer and vocalist Ruby Laks, she developed the unusual skill of playing brushes on snare while singing—a creative solution born from her desire to complement Carlos’s guitar work. This rare combination pushes beyond traditional vocalist expectations and adds a unique rhythmic dimension to Night & Day’s sound. Wendy’s passion for music began in childhood, though she never imagined it would lead to sharing the timeless beauty of jazz with audiences across the valley. For her, every jazz standard tells a story—a window into an era of history and a living tradition that continues to evolve. The genre’s demand for adaptability and fluidity resonates deeply with her personal journey as an artist. Performing brings Wendy profound fulfillment, and she approaches each show with genuine excitement for what lies ahead. Her commitment to growth, combined with her love for jazz’s storytelling power, drives Night & Day’s authentic and heartfelt performances.

Carlos Hernandez – Guitar Carlos Hernandez brings 13 years of musical excellence to Night & Day, with a distinguished background that spans classical and jazz traditions. As principal flutist for the UTRGV Symphony Orchestra and one of the Rio Grande Valley’s leading saxophonists, he has performed at prestigious venues including the National Flute Association’s global conference in Chicago and TMEA as part of one of Texas’s top orchestras. His versatility shines through performances across jazz, classical, Latin, bossa nova, and salsa—including collaborations with Tito Puente Jr. Carlos’s journey to jazz guitar reflects his dedication to the craft. Recognizing the need to accompany his duo partner Wendy, he committed himself to mastering the instrument, and his abilities have grown exponentially through focused study and performance necessity. His experience with the UTRGV Jazz Combo, both as a performer and instructor, informs his sophisticated approach to harmony and improvisation. For Carlos, jazz represents more than music—it’s a philosophy. The discipline of study, the freedom of improvisation, and the balance between structure and spontaneity shape both his artistry and his approach to life. Every performance with Night & Day embodies years of dedication and the belief that authentic jazz requires time, work, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
